Why Most People Suck At Achieving Their Goals

Achieving goals is as simple as going from Point A to Point B. Point A is where you are right now, and Point B is where you want to go. So why do so few people ever actually arrive at Point B?

A Twofold Problem

The reason so few people achieve their goals is two-fold:

  1. People don't have clear goals, so they can’t be effective in reaching them.
  2. People don't address the root cause of why they failed to achieve those goals, and they just simply reset them.

The first half of the problem is easy to solve: Just get specific. For example, don’t just say “I want to earn more money.” Write down, “I want to make $10,000/month.” If you need more help getting specific about your goals, leave your comment below and I will send you some free materials to help.

For now, it’s the second half of the problem we need to address more closely: the root cause of previous failures.

If you think about what I've said--Point A being where you are, Point B being where you're going--if you know where you want to go, and you aren’t getting there, then logically the problem is where you are.

The real problem for most people is they don't know where they are.

Get Out of Springfield

Imagine for a moment you are Lisa Simpson, from the popular animated t.v. show “The Simpsons.” The creators chose the ambiguous “Springfield” for the Simpsons’ hometown because there is a Springfield in 35 of the 50 U.S. states.

So let’s say you, Lisa Simpson, want to go from Springfield to New York City. You get a map out, draw a route, and map out all the service stations along the way, thinking you have the perfect plan. You head off on your way, but suddenly find yourself completely lost.

What happened was you assumed you were in, say, Springfield, California, when actually you were in Springfield, Texas. Just using “Springfield” to identify where you were made you map out the completely wrong path even though you knew 100% that you wanted to get to New York.

That's exactly what happens with people when it comes to their goals, but it's not a geographical problem, it's a mindset problem. People don't know where they are in terms of their mindset.

Correctly Identifying Where You Are

Not knowing where you are in terms of mindset is a fixable problem.

It is, however, notoriously difficult, because it feels like a mysterious force, like this unseen force that's at play that's actually controlling why you can't get to those goals that really matter to you.

That secret force has a name, and the name is A Paradigm.

In my next YouTube video and its blog, I’ll teach you about Paradigms and how to use them. Be sure to subscribe, and leave a comment below about what Springfield means to you!
